HRC Newsletter – 31st October 2017

Dear Club,

As promised here is issue #2 of the newsletter. This week: XC Results, Injury Prevention w/ Rebecca, Halloween Run, Race Entries, Letters to the Editor?

XC Results
There was a great turn out in the first XC league race on 22nd October – 28 adults and 21 juniors. I am also told the cakes Jenny and Kirsty brought were very good. View the XC Results.

Next race is 12th November at Prestwold Hall – we haven’t had the full details through yet but we will arrange a car share as usual.

Conditioning & Injury Prevention Session with Rebecca
Rebecca will be doing another conditioning/injury prevention session next week. This will be on Tuesday 7th November after normal training, in the downstairs room of the Leisure Centre. It will focus on hips and knees and the muscles in between, with some drills too. Please bring your foam roller if you have one – this can be stored in the lockers (£1 operated) during training.

Halloween Run
Friday’s Halloween pub run was a big success with more than 40 from both the club and the All Sorts coming out to frighten the town in some fantastic costumes. Here are some photos from the night.

Race Entries
Entries for a couple of popular races are coming up:
Belvoir Challenge (Sat 24th Feb) is opening midnight tonight

That’s the news bit done. But what’s this? I have received some reader correspondence!

Will Pither writes:

Frankfurt Marathon is a Lauf!

As I sit in the airport waiting for my delayed flight home, I thought that I would pen a few words about my trip to Frankfurt.  A couple of things stood out that made me want to choose the race.  Firstly the timing of the race was late enough in the calendar that I could train through the summer.  Secondly, it is relatively flat (elevation gain was 289 ft) and is targeted as a fast course. Thirdly, which is arguably the best bit the race finished with last 100m in Frankfurt’s Festival Hall.

The 2017 race had 8,773 runners and was well organised.  There were plenty of aid stations with the latter ones having gels and bananas.  They had laid on several runs, one was a relay which was quite disconcerting as you suddenly had a speedy runner screaming past you.

Clearly my thoughts on Germans as reserved is totally wrong, the word for Run is Lauf and everyone seemed up for it.  In the starting pen I was surrounded by Greek runners who were amazing.  Then further round I encountered a Norwegian support crew, with my favourite sign of the day ”Run like you stole something”…tried that for a bit but couldn’t keep it up.

It made me wonder where are the furthest races that a Hinckley top had been to…

I should add that it was Will’s second marathon and he finished in a PB time of 3:57:11.

Till next week
