Last night was the club’s Annual General Meeting which was attended by about 40 members old and new. It is the important occasion when members agree how the club will be run for the next year. The first news to report is the changes to the committee which are as follows:
At the meeting Geoff Oliver announced that he would step down as Club President after 15 years on the committee. He explained this was mainly due to difficulties driving at night and being unable to attend meetings, and made it clear that this was a retirement from the committee only and not from the club! We will still have his final president’s speech to look forward to at the presentation night, and that will also be an occasion to give him a proper thanks.
The role of club president is appointed, rather than voted on. On behalf of the committee, the chairman invited Dave Masser to be the new club president and he kindly accepted.
Andy Lauder is stepping down as chairman after 3 years in the role. Charlotte Sinclair volunteered to take on the role and is our new chairman.
Derek Gordon agreed to become the new men’s captain alongside Simon Wiggins who is staying on, and Greg Pollard is stepping down from the committee.
Sanjay Chamund is the new LRRL rep, taking over from Chris Langham who is stepping down.
Ruth Mansfield has taken on the publicity role, taking over from Charlotte.
The club has created a new role of assistant secretary to assist Liz with her duties (mainly the techie duties!), and that will be done by me.
All of the other committee members have agreed to continue their roles, and therefore therefore the full committee is now as follows:
PRESIDENT – Dave Masser
CHAIRMAN – Charlotte Sinclair
SECRETARY – Elizabeth Aspden-Mansfield
TREASURER – Odette Foxall
SECRETARY – Richard Pearson
VICE CHAIRMAN – Andrea Earley
CLUB DEVELOPMENT – Leanne Byard
MENS CAPTAINS – Simon Wiggins and Derek Gordon
LADIES CAPTAINS – Céline Guéry and Jenny Green
COACHING COORDINATOR – Jenny Green
LRRL REP – Sanjay Chamund
XC REP – Kate Perkins
PUBLICITY – Ruth Mansfield
ASSISTANT SECRETARY – Nick Moore
In the equally important non-committee roles:
- Penny Masser has agreed to carry on as kit rep
- I will carry on doing the website
- Andy Lauder, Emma Thompson and Diane Wildbur will be welfare officers, both for the main club and juniors. I expect we will hear more about this at some point.
A big thank you to all new members volunteering and to all those ongoing and stepping down for their service.
London Marathon Club Place
For 2020 the club has been allocated one club place for the London Marathon and this has been awarded to Jessica Daly.
Membership fees will remain the same as last year. EA affiliation cost has increased from £15 to £16, but the club will subsidise the extra £1 to keep the price of affiliated membership at £40.
Code of conduct
The club has agreed to adopt a code of conduct setting out what behaviour is expected of members. You can read it here: https://hinckleyrunningclub.com/membership/code-of-conduct
- Liz will be kindly hosting the Mince Pie night again, details to be announced.
- Also be on the look out for an announcement from Leanne about a Christmas social night.
- The presentation night will be on Saturday 18th January, once again at the rugby club. Details to be announced in due course.
I have probably forgotten something as this is all from memory. Other things may be announced in due course, and any errors or omissions are all mine! Thank you to everyone who attended last night and here’s to another successful year of the club.
Training- Castle Street Hill Work
Warm up- 1.5 miles
Meeting at the GAME shop by the phone boxes on Castle Street.
Individually or in small groups run down Church Walk and up Castle Street maintaining speed and form.
Recover 30-60 secs at the top.
Repeated for 30 minutes.
We have now thoroughly finished the summer races, dusted off our hi-vis and are getting prepared to get extremely muddy in cross country races. So I thought it a good time to catch up on events and look ahead.
Club events and autumn marathons
In September we had another successful park run takeover at Bedworth organised by Céline and the Toucan run celebrated its one year anniversary and had a takeover of its own. These great events bringing together the three parts of the club and having a benefit on the community.
Well done to all our autumn marathoners/half marathoners. We unfortunately had the disappointment of the cancellation of the Leicester Marathon/half marathon due to flooding of the course but it was great to see so many members either taking on their own virtual versions or travelling to other events. Well done to Charlotte May Sinclair and Vince Iliffe who achieved new PB’s at the Lisbon and York marathons respectively. Penny Masser had another great marathon success at the Chester event and new member Matt Aitken completed his first marathon in York in a superb 3 hours 35 minutes. Also congratulations to the many members who took part in both the Great North, Great South runs and numerous trail marathons and ultras all over the country.
Charlotte powering along to a new PB in Lisbon
Another great year for HRC in the Leicestershire Road Running League. We had some excellent performances throughout the year and a large number of new members pulling on the vest and racing. The guys were great with Chris Langham achieving third place male in the V50 category for the summer league. This following on from Richard Whitelegg’s third place in the spring league for the V45 category caps off a great success. The stars of the show were the ladies though. A third place in division 1 and the Vet ladies champions of division 3. Penny Masser had a fantastic 2nd place in V50 category for the summer league. Congratulations to those mentioned and to all who took part this year. Next year has the potential for even more successes and my fellow captains and I look forward to seeing how our members progress and encouraging even more of you to take part.
Penny and Chris at the LRRL awards presentation evening. (Note the rare sight of seeing Penny out of running attire!)
A summary of all the years results can be found on the website
The clubs AGM will take place Tuesday 12th November at the Plough Inn, Leicester Road, Hinckley at 8:15 pm. All members are welcome to come along. A number of positions on the committee are up for grabs and I highly recommend getting involved if you can dedicate the time. Two members of the current committee have confirmed they are stepping down and I take this opportunity to thank both the Chairman Andy Lauder and my fellow Captain Greg Pollard. Both are humble, popular members of the club who have been brilliant in their roles.
Another successful season completed with graduations of both beginners and intermediate groups. The All Sorts continue to be a huge success with many progressing through to big club. The beginners graduated at the Leicester 5k series on 29th August. Well done to all the new graduates. All new groups started on 2nd October. Hinckley All Sorts meet at Hinckley Leisure Centre with Beginners at 6:30 pm and Intermediates at 7:30 pm.
All Sorts graduation at Victoria Park 5K Summer series
HRC Mental Wellness
Positive mental health is hugely important for all of us and the club is taking a proactive role to try and make a difference. Running can have a hugely beneficial effect on our mental health. How much better do we all feel after a run to clear your head or chatting with a friend about a bad day as you run? The club believe that it is important to provide support to our members in this regard. On Tuesdays and Thursdays we have mental wellness champions identified by their yellow wristbands so should you wish to speak openly and in confidence please feel free to approach them.
