But in summary:
ALL abilities welcome
Minimum age for the adult race – 17 years – this is for insurance/licensing purposes and unfortunately can’t be changed
You must be a member of the club to run
You must wear a club vest/T-shirt
Non EA affiliated members may run, but you have to pay £2 extra per race
2nd claim runners can run and count towards individual awards, but CANNOT count for the team unless we don’t have enough runners otherwise
Entry is on the day – fees (usually between £5 and £7) are paid to the club XC rep (me!) in cash – there is no maximum number of runners we can have
The races are officially between 5 miles and 10k, but unofficially some are more like 4.5 miles.
Race start 11am
Courses are mixed terrain, and often depend on how much rain we’ve had – but vary from fairly tame gravel tracks to slogging through mud up to your ankles (and sometimes knees!)
Trail shoes or spikes are required – information published before each race will advise on which is more suitable
Much like the road league, there are individual age category and team prizes
Individual awards are based on the best 4 results from the first 5 races – the last race doesn’t count.
Men’s team: 8 to count – must include 2 vet 40+
Ladies team: 4 to count – must include 1 vet 40+
ALL races count for team awards and ALL runners will help, even if you don’t count for our team – you will beat counters from other teams, meaning their score isn’t as good.
There are no numbers or chip timing – you are given a token at the finish, which must be handed to the club XC rep to complete the results sheet
Cake is a mandatory requirement 
There is also a kids race at each event – start time usually 10:30am, price £2 – entry on the day via the Derby Runner tent. Year 3 upwards. Non-club members welcome.
Primary school age groups – 1 mile
Secondary school age groups – 2 mile
I will be holding a XC taster session at Burbage Common before the season starts – as I know some people only have painful memories of plodding round the school field for XC – this is much more fun
