Dear Club,
This week: Kibworth Cancelled, XC Update, Individuals Results, Merit Award, Desford 5 Entries
Kibworth 6 Cancelled
The Kibworth 6 league race, which was scheduled for this Sunday 4th March, has been cancelled by the venue due to safety concerns in the bad weather. We had 24 members entered. There is a possibility that the host club may be able to reschedule it and so we await news.
XC Races Update
The most recent XC race at Grace Dieu was really nice club outing, with many new faces doing their first cross country, as well as particularly good cake – Results. The next and final race is our race at Bosworth Battlefield on 11th March – requests have gone out for help with course setup, marshalling car parking etc. and we will of course need as many as we can to run the race!
XC League Individuals Results
This season the Derby Runner League individuals tables are based on the best four results from the first five races (the last race counts only for the team competition). Here are the Hinckley runners who have achieved placings in the results:
Rich Whitelegg – 54 pts – 2nd V45 Male
Nick Moore – 198 pts – 21st Senior Male
Steve Tampin – 423 pts – 8th V45 Male
Matthew Jordan – 1049 pts – 26th V45 Male
Jonathan Richardson – 1240 pts – 23rd V50 Male
Kate Perkins – 64 pts – 11th Senior Female
Bethan Padbury – 79 pts – 3rd U20 Female
Jenny Green – 150 pts – 17th Senior Female
Céline Guéry – 203 pts – 23rd Senior Female
Congratulations to all the above and to all the others who have taken part in any of the XC races this year.
Merit Award
For 2018 the club is introducing a new level of Standard Times award, in addition to the existing Diamond, Gold, Silver and Bronze. To earn a Merit award you still have to complete the 5 races of different distances, or 9 for a Distinction. However there is no minimum time standard for a Merit — you only have to complete the race and gain an official time in the results. The idea of the Merit is to open up the awards night to more people and we hope to get lots of Merit applications for the awards at the end of the year. Full info
Desford 5 Entries
The Desford 5 race is scheduled for Sun 25th March and entries open 8:30pm tomorrow – Thursday 1st March – at the following link: https://www.evententry.co.uk/desford-5 The race is only £6 and is 5 miles on quiet country roads, a great course. It would be really nice to have a big HRC turnout and it would be great to see lots of the newer members of the club giving it a try. These races usually sell out quickly so make sure to get an entry if you want to take part.

Seniors Results – Team Tables – Juniors Results

For 2018 the club is introducing a new level of Standard Times award, in addition to the existing Diamond, Gold, Silver and Bronze. This will be called a Merit award.
The idea of the Merit is to open up the awards night to more people and to recognise those who are working toward the Bronze standard. To earn a Merit award you still have to complete the 5 races of different distances, or 9 for a Distinction. However there is no minimum time standard for a Merit — you only have to complete the race and gain an official time in the results.
This is of course still no easy feat as you still have to enter and run all the races in the year.
All other rules are the same as for the existing awards, i.e. races must be officially measured accurate distances, and so on.
Please see the Standard Times page for full details of the awards scheme. We hope to get lots of Merit applications for the awards at the end of the year.
(Some of who who have been in the club a while may know the Merit award from years ago — we are now bringing it back.)
Good luck and enjoy your racing in 2018.

Here is the info from Shepshed RC for the next XC on 18th Feb:
Parking is in the school grounds. The seniors fee is £4 and juniors £1.50.
Remember there is no need to book a place in these races as they are “turn up on the day” and open to all members of the club. The more the merrier! Club vest is available for £15 if you don’t have one yet.
Car Share – Usual spot (Trinity Vicarage car park – LE10 0BU) from 9am to depart 9:15

LRRL Races Update
The winter league races are proving as popular as ever and entries for both Stilton 7 and Kibworth 6 have been and gone and both races sold out quickly. I hope everyone got a place who wanted one. I didn’t get a chance to get everything into the newsletter as I was on holiday while it was all going on. Keep an eye on the HRC website & Facebook Group for announcements of further race entries opening.
Next XC Race
The next Derby Runner cross country is on Sun 18th Feb at Grace Dieu Manor School. This is a fun one with a few river crossings per lap 🙂 More info to follow.
Till next time,

We are having a taster session aimed at members of the club & the All Sorts who haven’t done cross country but want to give it a go. Or if you have done it before but just fancy running round the common and support the event 🙂
Info from Kate Perkins:
XC – it’s a bit like Marmite – you either love it or hate it! But you need to try it first….
When? 2pm Saturday 10th February
Where? Burbage Common (visitor centre)
How far? 3 miles maximum, with opportunity to shorten.
How fast? Not at all – pace will suit ability of people present.
Footwear? Ideally spikes or off-road shoes – we will try and get together a selection for people to try, but can’t guarantee we’ll be able to kit everyone out!
RESULTS Derby Runner XC League – Race 4 – Allestree Park – 21st January 2017=8
Seniors Results – Team Tables – Note: No juniors results available as the results sheets disintegrated in the snow.
What a fantastic race to be part of, my first in the snow for sure. A smaller than usual team with 9 hardy cross country lovers from Hinckley taking part. The ladies team of 4 came 7th in Div 1. Unfortunately since we only had 5 men the men’s and mixed teams did not score ?. (A mens team requires 8 finishers and a mixed team requires 7 men and 3 women.) All the same a great race enjoyed by all.
Our thanks to the marshals photographers and supporters standing out n the cold while we who were running at least got to stay warm.

Action photo from the juniors race (thanks Steve Wrightam) and seniors team photo from after today’s Allestree Park XC ?❄️☃️
