HRC Newsletter – 8 November 2019

Dear Clubmates

We have now thoroughly finished the summer races, dusted off our hi-vis and are getting prepared to get extremely muddy in cross country races. So I thought it a good time to catch up on events and look ahead.

Club events and autumn marathons

In September we had another successful park run takeover at Bedworth organised by Céline and the Toucan run celebrated its one year anniversary and had a takeover of its own. These great events bringing together the three parts of the club and having a benefit on the community.

Well done to all our autumn marathoners/half marathoners. We unfortunately had the disappointment of the cancellation of the Leicester Marathon/half marathon due to flooding of the course but it was great to see so many members either taking on their own virtual versions or travelling to other events. Well done to Charlotte May Sinclair and Vince Iliffe who achieved new PB’s at the Lisbon and York marathons respectively. Penny Masser had another great marathon success at the Chester event and new member Matt Aitken completed his first marathon in York in a superb 3 hours 35 minutes. Also congratulations to the many members who took part in both the Great North, Great South runs and numerous trail marathons and ultras all over the country.

LRRL

Another great year for HRC in the Leicestershire Road Running League. We had some excellent performances throughout the year and a large number of new members pulling on the vest and racing. The guys were great with Chris Langham achieving third place male in the V50 category for the summer league. This following on from Richard Whitelegg’s third place in the spring league for the V45 category caps off a great success. The stars of the show were the ladies though. A third place in division 1 and the Vet ladies champions of division 3. Penny Masser had a fantastic 2nd place in V50 category for the summer league. Congratulations to those mentioned and to all who took part this year. Next year has the potential for even more successes and my fellow captains and I look forward to seeing how our members progress and encouraging even more of you to take part.

Committee

The clubs AGM will take place Tuesday 12th November at the Plough Inn, Leicester Road, Hinckley at  8:15 pm. All members are welcome to come along. A number of positions on the committee are up for grabs and I highly recommend getting involved if you can dedicate the time. Two members of the current committee have confirmed they are stepping down and I take this opportunity to thank both the Chairman Andy Lauder and my fellow Captain Greg Pollard. Both are humble, popular members of the club who have been brilliant in their roles.

All Sorts

Another successful season completed with graduations of both beginners and intermediate groups. The All Sorts continue to be a huge success with many progressing through to big club. The beginners graduated at the Leicester 5k series on 29th August. Well done to all the new graduates. All new groups started on 2nd October. Hinckley All Sorts meet at Hinckley Leisure Centre with Beginners at 6:30 pm and Intermediates at 7:30 pm.

HRC Mental Wellness

Positive mental health is hugely important for all of us and the club is taking a proactive role to try and make a difference. Running can have a hugely beneficial effect on our mental health. How much better do we all feel after a run to clear your head or chatting with a friend about a bad day as you run? The club believe that it is important to provide support to our members in this regard. On Tuesdays and Thursdays we have mental wellness champions identified by their yellow wristbands so should you wish to speak openly and in confidence please feel free to approach them.

Upcoming events for the diary

AGM – 12th November 8:15 pm New Plough Inn, Leicester Road, Hinckley
Holly Hayes Cross country – 17th November 11 am

Happy running all!

HRC Newsletter – 1st June 2019

Dear Clubmates

Now marathon season has concluded (and I have my life back!) I thought it would be an ideal time to catch up on everyone’s fantastic achievements.

Juniors

The juniors took part in an event called Quadkids on 10th May with the second one taking place Friday 14th June. The event comprises a sprint, a 1 lap race, a jump and a throw to earn points. The athletes of the day were Elizabeth Booth and Caelan Saunders who both got a trophy. Well done to both and all who took part.
The Toucan run continues to be really positive event, open to all club members. In addition there are new milestone rewards for those taking part. The juniors are also throwing out a challenge to the seniors at the Nuneaton opens events. See details below in the events for your diary for both events. Senior club member and All Sort support always greatly welcomed.

LRRL

Since the last newsletter we have had a number of Leicestershire Road Running league races including Kibworth 6, Desford 5, Bosworth Half and West End 8.
We’ve had brilliant performances at the races and larger turnouts than last year. At these races we had the following runners of the day Chris Rawson, Jess Daly, Mike Welch, Aly Wren, Alan Morris and Penny Masser. We’ve also seen the return of the controversial red shorts, is it a major clash or a must have in your race kit? Get yourselves booked on the upcoming races, these are really enjoyable local races with car shares available to get you there.

Results for the races can be found at: https://hinckleyrunningclub.com/races/lrrl-2019/

Ashby 20

Another big HRC turnout of 21 runners at Ashby 20 this year on 24th March. In the mens race Matt Johnson was our star performer arriving back in 2:07:53. Other stand out performances include Ed Nixon who had a brilliant race setting a new PB. Vince Iliffe also set a new PB taking 21 minutes off his previous 20 mile time.
For the ladies there were stand out performances with the notable Penny Masser achieving another diamond time and Lucy Masser completing the course in a superb 2:49:29.

Marathons and Half Marathons

HRC members were running marathons all over again. In Manchester we had Derek Gordon, Alex Papadopoulos and Vince Iliffe take part and have great races. This was Derek’s first marathon and he completed the 26.2 miles in a super 3:36. Vince took 27 minutes out of his marathon time setting a brilliant new PB.

At Boston we saw Leanne Byard complete the marathon with a new PB, taking 9 minutes of her previous time. At the same event Alexis Wiggins took part in his first half marathon and did really well.

In the big VLM event HRC runners were again a plenty. We had runners supporting charities raising large donations with Richard Pearson, Charlotte Sinclair, Mark Hubbard and Chris Rawson raising significant funds for charity. In the race everyone did extremely well with many of us tracking the runners and cheering them on.

Paris saw Ali Higgins complete yet another marathon with his daughter also running the race. James Brown had his first marathon in Worcester and had a fantastic race, thoroughly deserved from how hard he trained. Elaine Barrett also took on the exceedingly tough Tissington trail Marathon having a superb run.

Then in Liverpool Joe Langham, Richard Hayne and myself took on the full marathon. Richard, from a beginner in All Sorts last year, did really well and completed his first marathon. Of great significance were the number of club members running their first half marathon with a big well done for Louise Rawson, Sarah Dixon, Marc Stringer and Kate Jackson. Excellent runs had by all with the saint like preparations during the weekend no doubt helpful ?

New Club Record

Marathons aren’t the be all and end all. With that in mind a mention for former Captain Nick Moore who has been in impressive form this year in both league races and cross country where he is usually found near the head of the field in all events. He also set an amazing new club record on the track at Pingles for 1500 metres clocking an incredible 4 mins 51.36.

All Sorts

Graduations of both beginners and intermediates have been completed with a great number now progressing through to big club. The beginners graduated at the Leicester 5k series on 30th May and the intermediates graduating at the Chase the Sun event in Prestwold on 9th May. A massive well done to everyone. All new groups starting on 5th June at Hinckley Leisure Centre with Beginners at 6:30 pm and Intermediates at 7:30 pm.

HRC Newsletter – 22nd March 2018

Dear Club,

This week: XC & LRRL Updates, Livingston Relays, Social Night

Cross Country Update
The winter XC season has come to a close with the final Derby Runner League race at Bosworth Battlefield which our club hosted. A great day for all the club running, marshalling etc. and welcoming the other clubs to our event. Full teams again for the last two races of the season meant that we maintained out places in the top division of each league (men, ladies and mixed) and avoided the relegation drop and it was great to see so many new members taking part in their first XC this season. Bosworth Results

LRRL Update
The road league is now also underway and the first race was the Stilton 7 in Feb – Stilton Results
The next league race is the Desford 5 this Sunday for which we have got 36 names from the club entered, which is fantastic, and many new members doing their first race.
Car share for Desford 5: Meet from 9am at the old leisure centre car park (Trinity Vicarage Lane LE10 0BU) for setting off by 9:15. There is also a group going to cycle over setting off from the same place at 9.

Kibworth 6 Rescheduled
The Kibworth 6 LRRL race, which was cancelled due to the bad weather, has now been rescheduled for Sunday 27th May. Existing entries remain valid for the race. If you can no longer run, you can transfer your place to someone else: Link to transfer place

On 29th April in Braunstone Park, Leicester — the Livingston Relays was great fun last year and we would like to do it again. This is team relays of 3 miles per person (mens teams of 4, women’s teams of 3, and U15 teams too). Please let Céline know if you are would like to run a 3 mile leg so we know how many teams to enter.

HRC Newsletter – 28th February 2018

Dear Club,

This week: Kibworth Cancelled, XC Update, Individuals Results, Merit Award, Desford 5 Entries

Kibworth 6 Cancelled
The Kibworth 6 league race, which was scheduled for this Sunday 4th March, has been cancelled by the venue due to safety concerns in the bad weather. We had 24 members entered. There is a possibility that the host club may be able to reschedule it and so we await news.

XC Races Update
The most recent XC race at Grace Dieu was really nice club outing, with many new faces doing their first cross country, as well as particularly good cake – Results. The next and final race is our race at Bosworth Battlefield on 11th March – requests have gone out for help with course setup, marshalling car parking etc. and we will of course need as many as we can to run the race!

XC League Individuals Results
This season the Derby Runner League individuals tables are based on the best four results from the first five races (the last race counts only for the team competition). Here are the Hinckley runners who have achieved placings in the results:

Rich Whitelegg – 54 pts – 2nd V45 Male
Nick Moore – 198 pts – 21st Senior Male
Steve Tampin – 423 pts – 8th V45 Male
Matthew Jordan – 1049 pts – 26th V45 Male
Jonathan Richardson – 1240 pts – 23rd V50 Male

Kate Perkins – 64 pts – 11th Senior Female
Bethan Padbury – 79 pts – 3rd U20 Female
Jenny Green – 150 pts – 17th Senior Female
Céline Guéry – 203 pts – 23rd Senior Female

Congratulations to all the above and to all the others who have taken part in any of the XC races this year.

Merit Award
For 2018 the club is introducing a new level of Standard Times award, in addition to the existing Diamond, Gold, Silver and Bronze. To earn a Merit award you still have to complete the 5 races of different distances, or 9 for a Distinction. However there is no minimum time standard for a Merit — you only have to complete the race and gain an official time in the results. The idea of the Merit is to open up the awards night to more people and we hope to get lots of Merit applications for the awards at the end of the year. Full info

Desford 5 Entries
The Desford 5 race is scheduled for Sun 25th March and entries open 8:30pm tomorrow – Thursday 1st March – at the following link: https://www.evententry.co.uk/desford-5 The race is only £6 and is 5 miles on quiet country roads, a great course. It would be really nice to have a big HRC turnout and it would be great to see lots of the newer members of the club giving it a try.  These races usually sell out quickly so make sure to get an entry if you want to take part.

Dates for your diary
Sunday, 11th March – Derby Runner XC @ Bosworth Battlefield (Hinckley’s race & the last of the season)
Sunday, 25th March – LRRL Desford 5 – Entries open Thurs 1st March at 8:30pm
